I have 1987 GTA that has a 350 TPI, that had a engine fire. Ok now it runs. The trouble is that when I rev it up like to what it sounds like is 4000 rpms, (the tach is maxed out at 7000 rpms?)it also has the digital dash. the alt quits charging. The lights dimm and the guage drops. But when I lower the rpms it starts charging again. Now this is a brand new remanufactored unit (new means never been used before I bolted it on the car). THe wiring harness is out of a 87 IROC 350 TPI. Is the alt bad or the wiring, or by some weard chance Am I REALLY getting 7000 rpms? I highly doubt it Because my IROC sounds the same at 4000 RPMS.

I've never personally seen a dig. dash yet but I've seen quite a few complaints about them before on here.

TPI (along w/a stock mototr) will not willingly/easily goto 7k rpm. The tach gets its signal from the white wire off the coil I believe. Hope that is of some use.
