electric fan issues

A few days ago I was driving around and my car's temps got up to around 260 degrees. This has happened before, so I didn't freak out, but I knew something was wrong(I wen through a lot before replacing my entire cooling system). I checked the fan and it wan't running. The fuse was blown, so I changed it. I then put in 2 more fuses and they blew instantly. I even tried a 30 amp fuse, which also blew. Somebody help me, I don't know too much about electrical system failures.

You need a new fan motor....this is common. Sometimes they just go out, and dont blow a fuse...other times they short and blow em.

You can pick up a new motor for about $29 from Autozone with a lifetime warranty....I have 2 of them that probably get replaced every other year because I use them so much (they do have a limited lifespan).

I just replaced the fan motor with one that has a lifetime guarentee about 2 months ago, and I've only driven the car about 1000 miles since. So I don;t think that the motor is bad. It came on for a few seconds with the 30 amp fuse, then the fuse blew(you can see where the metal burned though.) Any other suggestions

Check for a short to ground on the wires which connect to the fan.

First unplug the fan motor. Then use an Ohms meter (or DVM set on Ohms) to check from a good ground to each of the (two) terminals which plug into the fan. One of them should go to ground, the other should not. If they both show continuity to ground then that is your problem.

If that is the problem then look for a melted area of the power wire which goes from the relay to the fan. If this wire is shorted to ground (or melted to the other wire going to the fan, which will also cause a short to ground) then repair this wire.

I found a short in one of the wires. There was a small cut in it(no clue how it got there) Spliced out that part, and everything is working great. Thanks guys for all your help!
