Alternator only charges part of the time

I just replaced the alternator on my car, because it was only charging part of the time. I put the new one on and it is still not charging all of the time. It went all day yesterday not charging, had to get a jump when leaving the gym, then it charged the whole way home, and restarted it several times today and it charged, the it quit. It Idles pretty fast when not charging, and when it is charging it idles normal (I assume this is because of the load). I recently installed a battery cut-off switch, but it worked fine for the first couple days it was in.

You might have a loose or internally broken wire somewhere.

Start with making sure the wire from the alt to the battery itself is alright. Test the wire with a multimeter set to resistance to make sure it's not broken on the inside (move the wire around to see). That's just where I'd start my search tho.

I'd guess with those times, your engine doesn't exactly have the most glassy smoothe idle Sometimes wire doesn't stand up to that well over time especially with time/age against them too. That's just my opinion, I could be wrong
