Have the timing set at 3 degree BTDC (at 6 it spark knocks bad when you stand on it), and it still knocks once in a while. Isnt a properly working knock sensor supposed to retard timing to make the knock disappear? I am running 87 octane in it, is this my problem? What is recommended for stock TPI engines?

Yeah try running 89 or higher octane
