On firebirds, the screen was supposed to straighten airflow because of the bend from the air box, correct...? I dont have the stock air box OR elbow any more so technically i could take the screen out since i wouldnt need to straighten in coming air?

Screen is there more to protect the MAF thermo-wire. Some widespread diverse discussion on the effects of the screen on the airflow. I left my cleaner side screen in and removed the upstream screen.
