Cooling Fan

The cooling fan on my 85 IROC 305 TPI has to have the wires put together to run. To stop it from running I have to disconnect the wires. I know the fan should come on automatically when the motor gets hot enough. Something must be broken? Can you tell me where the piece is that makes the fan come on? What is it called?

Thanks, Tom

You might want to chech thru the fuses under the dash. The relay for the fan is powered by the fuse panel (powered, key on only) and the ground is ECM controlled. If you haven't messed with wiring,, check the fuses.
