Lights flicker, stuff...

My lights flickering at night are becoming a real problem. My lights be start to flicker, but after I've drove about ten minutes it sometimes gets real bad. Volt meeter drops to 8, redish, others its around 12 but bobbing down and up rapidly (stereo leds flicker the same when its real bad.) Only happens when the car is running...
Any ideas?

I would guess your alternator is bad and when after a little bit of driving (all the battery juice runs out) it starts real bad. You should replace it ASAP because you're prolly draing the batter and might stall somewher one night.

My alternator is about 8 months old, but my old one did do something funny (after I replaced the original factory alternator, a few months later the new ones plastic rings burnt and melted so I had to replace it again.) You think I should just go ahead and get another new one?

You're difinetely losing power and the most likely cause is alternator failure. If you have the cash to spare go ahead and buy a new one or just wait, hopefully somebody more experienced on this board can help you out.

Battery and Alternator failure go hand-in-hand. Make sure your battery will hold a charge or when you replace the alternator it will attempt to charge the battery back up and burn out the new one too. If the battery won't take a full charge....replace it too.
