Disabling VATs need help
Can anyone give some specifics on disabling vats. I dont own a multimeter. Does anyone know the resistance of the chip on the key?
My car will not start! I've tried to use the tech article on this with no luck

there are i think 16 (correct me if im wrong) different values.
you can try calling chevy roadside...they MIGHT have yours on file....but mabye not
if not, you have to get the values...which i once had....but have no idea where they are now.....and try em all out. (must have multimeter)

here is what ya do.. go to radio shack.. they have a ohm meter... take your key mesure the resistance.. buy the same resistor right then and there.. take it home to your car... find the purple/white and white/black 24 gage wires... coming from the steering column... carfully expose the wire on both .. and then put one side the resistor on one wire and the other on the other wire... should work if you got the right resistance! let me know if you run into some problems...btw... you might want to disconnect the little connector after this is done cause if it is a flaky connection in the steering column the resistance will occasionaly read wrong... (make sure the resistor goes on after the connector)
let me know if you run into any problems

You must disconnect the wires from the steering column. Otherwise you have two resistors in parallel(the key when it works and the one you added.) The resistance of two resistors in parallel is not the same as just one of the resistors

You can also get your vats value from somewhere that makes the keys. I had a lot of ignition problems and replaced the vats, and it turned out to be good in the first place. Make sure that your vats isn't working, this might not be your problem.
