I have an 89 RS and I was taking out my shifter because I custom made one on a lathe, and noticed a plug with three wires not plugged into anything. The colors are orange, green and black. It was folded over and taped to itself, so it was intentionally not plugged into anything. What the heck would this go to???? Possibly a hatch button? But, I thought hatch buttons were only two wires. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

 

I'm not sure, but I can come up with three guesses.

Something to do with an automatic transmission car, i.e. nighttime illumination for shift index, or neutral safety switch.

Power hatch release.

Power mirrors.
