Timing advance on a 90 350?
Ok, I'm running a 350 tpi with msd 6AL box, plat plugs, and msd coil. Right now I'm running 10 degrees advanced. Just wondering if that is to much? The throttle response is good. But I am getting about 13 mpg on the highway and the SES light is almost always on.

If the SES light is coming on it probably isn't timing. The ecm will detect knock before your ear hears anything and it'll retard the timing. This could be why you're getting crappy gas milage BUT it could also be because you have a vacuum leak or some sensor isn't pluged in. Maybe a bad o2 sensor. Pull the codes (go to a mechanic with a scan tool), it's really easy, he'll know what to do. Don't worry about the SES light coming on and off, if it's a serious code it'll stay stored in the ecm for a while.
