Hatch release motor

I was replacing the light bulb blow the hatch release. The bulb sparked and now the hatch release motor only works with my key ring and only in short bursts. up or down. Any ideas what I did?

Yeah, checked the fuses first. they're all good. Just had the cover off and everything looks normal. No obvious signs of any electric arcing but it still only goes up and down using my key ring. and only a little way at a time. It worked perfectly before I replaced that light bulb!!

I wonder if it could have damaged the switch? Since the switch controls both the light coming on and the motor energizing. The switch I am referrig to is right there at the opening of the hatch pull down assy. If you press it the light should go out and the pull-down unit begin to lower. Release the switch and the light comes on and the hatch pull-down raises. You could also check the relay. You may have killed it with the arcing.
