White wire!?
White wire!?
I have gone through the archives and I am now more confused than when I started. Here is the prob. I have an 89 TA 305TPI for the purposes of this question. The wire going to my fan control switch was melted right at the sensor connector by my headers. I am going to replace the end of the connector to go back to the stock setup. Here is what is now confusing me.
1. The single wire that goes to my FC switch is white, not dk. green. Is this normal. I traced it back up the tubing and cant find a splice or crimp connector. Did some of these cars come like that stock?
2. Where I am really getting confused, is can I just wire my toggle switch to the white wire and be safe? That is the ground wire from what I understand. Could I just wire in the toggle switch right there and not have to worry about it frying. The switch I bought says 12v connection on the side.
I am not a wiring savy guy, although I am trying to learn.
Thanks
Robert

Fan wiring supposedly (at least I read that in a f.i. book for GM f.i.) varies somewhat thru the years. TPI, like dual fan setups, I believe wouldn't really change.
If you have a dual fan setup (what my 87 tpi has) the switch on the pass side head controls the 2ndary (pass side) fan. The wire comming from the switch is white then goes to a flat plug/harness where the wire changes to the green/white stripe wire that goes to the relay. This plug will also have the thicker orange power wires on it.
Splicing a switched ground wire into this white wire will not harm a thing.
