What are the colors of the wires coming out of the tach?
Here's what the following two colors generally signify:
Red: +12 volt ignition power
Black: ground
There should be two other wires coming out of the tach, as well; tach input, and dial light power.

If that's the case, then you should be able to easily identify the ground and light traces by ohming them out or following them to the back light. The ground will go to many other places on the PCB, while the light input will go only to the back light. That leaves the other two inputs - the power input will go to many places on the PCB, while the tach input will only go to a few locations. There will probably be a large polarized filter cap on the power input, as well, which should help affirm the wire ID procedure.
