crucial, LED guys... smart people in general...
Ok, I'm good with soldering, and I'm good with hot glue...
A while back crucial did that LED brakelight thing... Well I'm looking to do that to mine, however I have some wiring questions...
You need to wire 7 LED's in parallel, but you also need to make 7 rows... I think I know how to do a line of 7, but how do you do all 49?
It'd be: positive wire soldered to one side of LED, the other side of that LED soldered to another, and so on for a total of 7 LED's, then connect the end of the last one to negative... But I don't get how to do the last 6 rows.. do you need 7 power supplies going out back? i doubt it... So someone educate me! draw me up a diagram or something...
Also, assuming I wanted to make a control panel type thing for my car... to hook LED's up to it (lets use this as an example; an LED or LED array that lights up whenever the brakes are applied)... It'd try to find the positive wire that lights the brake lights, or try to find a relay of some sort and hook one end of the LED up to it (patch it in) and then attach the other end to a ground.. right?
So c'mon, help me, teach me something, I need an education in electronics anyway... it's interesting stuff...

Look in the 'Tech Page' in my sig, I've got a page on there with some electronic circuits, one is for doing just this.

The way I did mine is put 7 LEDs in series. The put another 7 in series right after it but with all the polarities reversed. You start out with a positive lead, have two negative leads joined up toghter in the middle and end up with a positive again. It's like a mirror effect. I shoudlnt even go on with this because it really isnt the best design. At idle they flicker a little as the voltage varies... they're not all perfetly straight up so the it's not very consistent as far as brightness goes.
My next design will be using computer cable header connecters like the 49 pin ones used on the ends of SCSI cables. That way all the LEDs stay up straight, they're perfectly spaced and it gives the whole thing a much cleaner look.
Also I will be using 6 LED clusters from now on and a voltage regulator for each cluster. Just a simple 3 pin 12Volt regulator from Radio Shack so I can stop the flickering by supplying a constant voltage to the LEDs.
