I have an 84 Z28 with the L69 305 H.O. engine. The other day I was driving about 35 mph and my car just cut off. I pulled over and tried to start it but NOTHING happened. The only thing that works are my headlights,cigarette lighter, dash lights and the interior lights down by the kick panel.The brake lights dont even work. I checked all fuses and replaced the ignition switch, and the battery is fully charged, and the starter wires are tight. Does anyone know what this could be, any help will be greatly appreciated.

 

Have you tested for any voltage on the putrple wire (the one by itself) for 12v+ ?(you'll need a tester & a 2nd person)

You couild have a broken neutral saftey switch. The purple wire on the starter goes into this. The (yellow) wire from the ignition goes into here as well. If you're getting 12v+ on the yellow wire while trying to start the the car but not on the purple,, you've the switch is bad. Just for the hell of it you could try starting the car while playing with thte shift & see if it does anything.

The brake lights are going to be that, by some odd happening, they both burned out, the fuse is bad or, the switch broke. There's really not much else to them.
