HELP!!!Hatch relaese switch not working.(detailed explanation inside)

OK. Here is the deal. There is no motor in my car, but hooked up a battery charger(could be the problem?)on 12volts. Everything works fine(stereo/kinda weak, aka blinking), lights, horn, etc. Here is the strange part. The trunk will not release with the switch in the middle console(unless I rig it/explination soon), but will with the key. After it is up it pulls down fine. The way I can rig it is take the top off of the relay that is connected to the switch.(3 prong) If I hold down the metal tab and push the switch it unlocks, but if I dont it will not. With the top off of the relay I can see that the thing seems to be charged the whole time because it sucks the tab that goes accross it down and you can feel electricity running through it, but as soon as I hit the switch it pops off, without popping the hatch. I have tried a new relay and it did nothing, checked my wiring(what to look for??) It seems to me like something could be hooked up backwards, because I thought the relay was susposed to suck down and connect to the other side when I hit the button, but what should I look for. Any wiring diagrams please post or send them to me NufNuffZ28@yahoo.com. This is reallyu fustrating because I want to trake out the rest of the wiring to paint the engine compartment, but not before I figure this out.

Thank You

Chris

You are completing ground to the circuit when you activate your hatch release button.

On automatic tranny cars, the ground is completed through the purple wire going to the starter. Yes, this is the same wire that gets 12 volts from the key when starting.n Since you have no engine, you can see how this could be a problem, if this applies.

On manual cars, the ground is through the parking brake switch. If this applies, have you tried it with your parking brake on?

Thanks. I will try that tonight, but I did not think the key had to be on to open the trunk. It could be one of the wires that I am missing in the ghetto harness I made to put on the battery charger.

Thanks

Chris

You are correct. The switch WILL work with the key off. But if the switch is on, it will only work with the auto gear selector in Park or Neutral. On T5 cars the parking brake must be engaged if the key is on. Safety feature, to keep you from popping it while moving. Good luck, Lon.
