The wire going between the alternator and the battery has a fusible link in it. It may go down to the starter and back up to the battery. Haven't checked on the 3rd Gen's. Anyway the fusible link keeps the alternator from overcharging the battery in the event of a runaway voltage regulator failure. You can run a 14 gauge wire directly from the back of the alternator to the battery positive terminal. The 14 gauge wire will burn thru just like a fusible link if the alternator fails but will ensure positive charging. Good Luck!
