Homemade or Replacement???

Ok heres the deal, my camaro had a 2.8-5.7 swap, none of the wiring was changed, starting circuit ignition, etc wired up ok, but that's all i'm sure of.
I'm pulling the engine this weekend to sandblast the engine compartment, and give it new shiny paint. While it's out i plan to fix the wiring problem.
Should I
a) find the proper factory wiring harness for the engine (from a pickup btw). and if so where would i find one, and for how much.

or

b) Make my own.

I have wired up a chrystler 2.2L on a test stand before and it was computer controlled. Mine won't be in the near future (i don't like wires in my engine compartment, what can i say ) So all i can see myself needing to wire up is the ignition, cranking system, and charging system.

Anything i'm missing, and does this sound feasable?

Anyone ever done this before?

Simply swapping the harness may not work, as the pinout on the bulkhead connector may not be the same between F body, and trucks. Is it possible to clean up the existing harness? Is this a carbed engine? TBI? TPI? What was the original engine? EFI or Carb?

The original and the replacement were are both carb'd. (cc quadrajet on the 350)
I plan to clean out the engine compartment of most everything but the engine. (removing AC, annd assoc. as well as some emmisions equip) And eventually phase out computer controlled components. Or go the other way, and convert to fuel injection.

The car runs now, but There's individual wires strewn about everywhere, and the old harness is pushed, still plugged into the firewall.

The guy who did the swap spliced in just enough stuff to get it to run.
