86 - 90 Gauge Conversion

I got my hands on a set of gauges from a 1990 IROC and was wondering how hard it would be to install it into a 1986 Z-28. I prefer the look, but I don't know if the wiring would work. I'd figure it out myself, but I've got my car sitting in my shop right now and I haven't had time to play with it. Could someone help me out?

I think the biggest obstacle you will run into is that the 90-92 guages are electronic speedos and the 82-89 is a mechanical speedo...do a search I know someone else has done this.

I've search the message archives and boards for an answer and can't find a damn thing but pics and more questions. I know the main diff between the two is the speedo, but what about the rest of the gauges. Will the existing plugs work or do I have to splice the new plugs to the old wiring? Second, will it fit without any modifications?

best thing I would suggest is pull the cluster in your car and campare it side by side with the newer one, do some measuring...I doubt they are that different.

As far as the speedo goes check out the transmission board. I think the guys using the T56 from the 4th gens have to convert the speedo setup, I think they us esome sort of aftermarket thingy to convert the signal.

Everything will fit with a few mods. What about the wiring? Will the existing harness work or will I have to splice it together and add diodes and resistors to it?
