I have an 89 firebird, with a 350carb.

So, sometimes when I twist the wiper thing back to "mist" it turns the wipers on continous, and the only way to turn them off is to shut the car down.
also, sometimes, when I hit a bump real hard, the wipers turn on.
And if I put the wipers in the "delay" range, the wipers come up halfway, then stop, then go, then stop, then just dont do anything.

what is the problem>

 

I've got this same problem with my 82. I was told to get a new wiper switch assembly. I have yet to do it, I just deal with the randomness of the wipers.

I corrected a similar problem by running a new ground over to the wiper motor harness in the engine bay.

Try turning the ignition key and winshield wiper switch to the on position. Then wiggle around the electrical harness that connects to the windshield wiper motor, if the wipers suddenly start moving or stop in the middle of the windhshield, you found one part of the problem.
