Ignition Switch?????

How hard would it be to change the ignition switch on my 91 firebird and what is involved? Do you have to remove the steering wheel?

Thanks

are you talking about the ignition switch or the lock cylinder where you put the key?

the actual ignition switch .that has the electrical contacts. my car seems to not want to start about every couple of months or so and I just wanted to replace the switch in case the contacts are worn down and not making a good conn.

if its just the switch then no, you dont need to pull the wheel. Just take off the under dash trim, take off the two nuts that hold the steering column to the frame, and the column will drop down, giving you access to the actual switch, witch is mounted on top of the column. its the one with a a couple connecters and about 8 wires hooked up to it, the other unit in that spot has a single connector with only a couple wires, that is your high beam switch. Those switch are connected to the top of the column by actuator rods, it has been suggested to wrap some tape around the column just above the switches to hold those rods in place while you work on the switch.
