ac heater control assembly

Does anybody know the best way to change the ac/heater control assembly cause when I turn on the ac a burnt smell and smoke come from it? Even when I select heater ac comes on with the burnt smell and smoke surfacing again. Could be caused by the whining noise come from the compressor? Any suggestion guys?

I had the same smoke from the controls on my last IROC. It was the fan speed switch. It's been a couple of years, but I don't think it was very expensive (about $15), and the switch can be changed without changing the entire control assembly. I suggest you remove the control assembly from the bracket that holds it in the dash, lay it on the console, turn the car on, and see where the smoke is coming from. If it's the switch, you're in luck. A couple of screws, and it's out. Best of luck.

Once you get it as far as spitz74 has said it will be fairly easy to fix. Yes get it out and see where the smoke is coming from. Probley might need to pop the stereo out to get it out.... Burn't fan speed switch shouldn't effect the A/C - Heater selection. Compressor noise shouldn't either unless you have a low voltage going to it. but once it's out you should see the problem.
