what wires are neccesary?
Okay i am wanting to remove all the wires that are not needed in my engine compartment. The only problem is i don't know what to leave and what to remove. My car has been decomputerised so half those wires are usless i imagine. My car use to have air conditioning but no longer does, so can i trash those wires and my heater still work?
hey buddy, well let me tell u from my expericence. ok i left the computer in mine and just bypassed it. bc ive heard GM did some f*cked up sh*t when it came to wiring those cars. but i just started cuttin on mine. its carbeurated now so i didnt need any of the fuel injection or emmissions wires. all that was removed. but i took the ac off and i wanted to keep the heat. well thats where things got crazy. if i were u id leave the ac wires just kinda hide them in that bundle of plastic. bc i only cut one of the ac wires and i left the other one but i think i may have cut the wrong one. unless my blower motor just went out while i was doing all of this but i have yet to test it. which i may do tom since im off. but if urs doesnt have the computer i dont really see why u couldnt take it off and it not work. i would just trace those wires and make sure they dont run together. but if nuttin else try and see. lol good luck man.

Most of the HVAC wires come out of the firewall, right below the heater core pipes on the firewall. Those are the ones you will need to keep.
It is very hard to explain all of the things you will need to do when removing the old wiring harness, and still having youre car run right and do what you want. Best thing to do is get a manual for your car (if you dont already have one). Now my car used to FI but now has a Carb., I removed all of the wires that dealt with FI and the ECM (which is a bunch), but needed to keep a few, ie. power for the elec. fan, tranny connector and wires, and I also wanted to keep the heater. I did this by taking off all of the wraping around the wires and tracing them to their various connectors. You will find that all of the wires you dont need go back to the ECM, they go inbetween the fender and enter behind the kick panel under the dash. All of the wires can be removed without cutting any of them, trust me I did it. I could sell the old wiring harness to some one who needed it, and not splice anything back together, so it can be done. I dont think our cars are the same (mines an IROC) but the same principals should apply. Just dont go cutting away at all of your wires, you will for sure be in for an electrical nightmare.
Hope this helps, I know it didnt cover everything, so feel free to ask some more questions.
