wiring harness questions
When taking out a wiring harness from a '86 TA, does anything need to be disconnected from the tranny or from the gauges? Is the a/c and fans on the harness? What is involved in takinf out the harness? What is the easiest way to remove and install a engine harness?

I was just told the '86 wiring harness won't work with my '85 dash harness and guages. Is this correct? They said the connectors may fit but the gauges in my '85 are mechanical and the '86 are electronic. I have access to the '86 as a parts car, should I pull the gauges and dash harness? What is involved in pulling the dash harness and gauges? Will anything else not work?
Thanks
Matt

Only the speedometer is a concern, the rest of the gauges will work.
Think about it.. a mechanical gauge wouldn't have an electrical connector, would it?
And since your speedometer is mechanical, you'd be able to keep the cable in the car and retain your speedometer function. You shouldn't have to move any wires to get a VSS signal to the ECM either, but that's not in stone. There's so many differences in the last 5 years and between the two makes it's hard to say.

Everything should work fine then? What does the vss signal do for the ecm? I want to make sure everything will hook up with out a problem and work properly. No mods to the harness is needed is there? I was told it wouldn't work by the guys at TA Creations.
Thanks
