Heater and Hatch Problems

I have a 1985 pontiac firebird and just yesterday the heat worked and I opened the hatch with the electric hatch button. Now today they both went out at the same time, I checked the fuses and they were ok. Could anyone tell me what this could be.

Only a thought---mine stopped working because the emer.brake lever was grounding out the switch. Have a look at the lever and the switch.

On a Manual equipped car the hatch release is SUPPOSED to be grounded through the e-brake. It is a safety feature. If you disconnect the ground from the e-brake you won't be able to pop the hatch with the ingition energized.
