Mass Airflow Sensor

Do any of you have a crimped on clamp that holds the mass airflow sensor to the air box? The other day I took off the airbox at a body shop so we could put in some bolts and that crimped clamp came loose and doesn't hold like it used to, tight. Anyways some funny stringy rubber looking seal came out from between the mass airflow sensor and the air box. Should I replace the seal with something like silicone rubber?

If you're talking about the air filter box, it's in front of the MAF and I (personally) wouldn't worry too much about it. You only have to be concerned with air leaks behind the MAF.

I guess it could not hurt if there were leaks in front other than the tiny tiny amount of unfiltered air.

I am not getting any codes yet thank goodness. I'll just seal the sucker up with some good old black silicone rubber when I get a chance to let it cure and sit a while before I drive it.

I wonder though, what happens if you need to replace your MAF? I mean do you just get a big worm gear clamp and use that? Or does the new MAF come with a clamp? It seems like a regular worm gear clamp would not hold on as well as the GM one does.
