I"M STUMPED "TPI wiring harness" ???
I've got the 350 TPI engine from my 89 Iroc removed "I'm switching to a carb/ non computer engine". I've sold the engine and the wiring harness & computer. I've removed the harness from the ECM and pulled the harness through the passenger fender. My concerns are:
#1- Right next to the ECM there is another plug-in that attaches to the harness that runs thru the dash. Am I going to need this part for the car to function with the new non computer engine?
#2- At the block where the main harness plugs-in @ the junction that goes thru the drivers side firewall, Do I sift thru the wires & only cut the ones that go to the TPI & computer system "not all of the wires pertain to the engine such as the plug-in to the wiper motor" or give the guy that bought the engine the complete harness & then find one from another car to modify for my new engine "maybe one from a carb car". If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate them.
Thanks in advance , Bruce (70GTO)

) the top of my head, the only thing I can think of ECM related that went to the engine harness would be the power wire that goes from the FP relay to the fuel pump itself and the orange FP test wire that runs to the ALDL connector.
The harness that the ECM was plugged into that ties in w/the factory harness no longer has a function since the ECM is gone and will not affect carb. operation. You can leave it or sift thru it and pluck the un-needed wires from the harness, I'd just leave it personally.

The other plug that runs through the dash is probably the one that runs to the ALDL connector, which you wont need anymore, but the other guy could probably use it. I would leave the other wires there myself.
Also, are you still going to use a 700r4, you might want to consider rigging up a manual lock-up switch for your Torque Converter, if you are. Makes for better highway crusing.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm gonna send the complete harness with the engine "The new owner is gonna install it in a late 80s Landcruiser".
Then, I will hunt another harness down & modify it for the new engine.
StngKlr,
I'm having a TH-400 built, I sold the 700R4. Thinking that I would have problems with it handling the HP that the new 427 smallblock is going to develope. "Gas mileage isn't too much of a concern since it's not my daily driver, but I did hate to loose the overdrive though "
BTW- If any one would be willing to post a few pictures for me I'd appreciate it. The new engine (details are in my signature)will be completed in a few days. My engine builder is going to install it in his Super Gas drag car for the initial syart-up & I'm gonna take a few pic's. of the ptocess.
Thanks a million, Bruce (70GTO)
