Power Pull down hatch issue

I had my car in the shop and when I got it back I noticed my car's rear hatch wasn't working. I would like to be able to fix it but I can't seem to figure it out. I don't really want to go all the way back up there in the car with no tags and inspection to get this fixed.

It looks like all the hardware is ok. The pull down is at the very bottom of the tracks. It would appear that all the wiring looks good and I can't find anything seemingly wrong. However nothing in the hatch motor area seems to get power at all.

There is one wire that is disconnected. It comes from the large cluster of wires that plugs into the harness at the bottom of the motor. It is not plugged into the hatch motor but it is near the bottom. It is mounted by a clip to the wall. Now there is one wire that is loose and doesn't seem to go into anything. It doesn't appear to be keyed to fit the hole in the motor hardness cluster thing. There is a spot for an extra wire with a contact at the bottom. I wish I could post pics of this. If anyone has pics of the power hatch motor in working condition I might be able to figure it out based on your wiring scheme.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

PS I did do a search but haven't found what I am looking for yet.

Actually I got it fixed now. I read something in one of my searches about resetting the pull down motor with a switch. I couldn't find a switch exactly. What I did was I put a phillips head screwdriver in the latch assembly and pushed down simulating the hatch closing. The motor reset and I was able to push it back to the top of the track. Once I did this it was no problem to get everything back the way it should be.

I also fixed my messed up courtesy light while I was in the back panel.

Next time, posting the color of the wires you are questioning would help to diagnose the problem. Power is supplied by the red with white stripe wire which connects to the blue wire from the unit. The gound is supplied by a black wire that has a ring terminal on the end and ataches to the common ground point below the unit. It sounds as if the striker sensing switch is starting to fail on your unit. Whenever you see suggestions to fiddle with the small black switch near the latch, they are referring to the striker sensing switch. New ones include all the wiring for the entire unit. It just attaches with one phillips screw, plug it into the reversing switch, connect the blue wire to power, attach the ground and plug in a new relay. On newer (I believe 90+) cars the white wire connects to a black with orange that controls the hatch light turning off and on.

Yeah that's not a bad idea. I figured out the sensing switch. I was also working in the freezing cold and I was in the dark. I appreciate the information on the wiring scheme. I may never need that info but I am sure someone on here will.

Read the Tech article I wrote on this site, or download the instructions for 101170 from my web site. That will give you an idea on how to repair these units.
