Help with a code 12.

My car won't start so I ran a diagnostic test which gave me :" no distributor signal to electronic control module; system pass"

Now, I changed my distributor cap & rotor on Saturday, it was running pretty good after that...so what the hell did I mess up? Now, It just wants to crank and almost start, but it never does.

The car is an '86 305 TPI,

Thanks,

Well, since you retreive the codes with the engine off you will always get code 12. In fact, thats how you tell that the ecm diagnostic ststem is working, jump pins A&B with key on engine off and look for a code 12.

Make sure you didn't break something else or accidentally disconnect something while doing the cap change. If all is well there, pull your cap back off and make sure it isn't broken and make sure you put the little button in the cap correctly along with the ground strap.

Pull both plugs at the rear of the dist and clean them with a good contact cleaner then try it. Look for evidence of corrosion in the 4 wire one. Check the 2 fasteners that hold the module in the dist and try tightening if they are loose. I don't have a manual handy but something in the back of my mind makes me think the module get's it ground that way. I'll repost when I check.
