Did '87 LG4's have this sensor?
I was wondering if the '87 LG4's got the crankshaft position sensor and if it did where is it?
also I have this plug behind the engine on the driver's side that doesn't plug into anything and I can't see back there very well and was wondering if anyone knew what this might go to.
Thanks.

Crankshaft position sensor? Never heard of one. But that dosent mean anything, maybe someone else has, but my manual says nothing about one.
What color was the wire(s), what does the plug look like. It could be a number of different things. Get back and I can tell you what your mystery plug is/was for.

No.
I believe that was limited to the v6 motor with the coil packs (distributorless) though.
As far as the plug, it could be anything from your description of it. As long as everything seems to function, I wouldn't worry about it

Well I have a knock and I thought maybe its being caused by something not pluged in. Was just a thought. When I get home I'll look at the plug and see if I can't give you a better description.

Ok I looked at it last night and it is a 2 prong plug that looks like the ones used for the foglights(factory...atleast on '86 T/A). 1 wire looked to be green while the other was either a grey or white with a black strip. again its behind the motor on the drivers side by the exhuast manifold.

I have the same mysterious plug on my 87 LG4. I have never hooked it up. My engine is now a 383, but same wiring harness. I was thinking it was a extra sensor or something, but don't worry about it. Your 02 sensor is near that area, just make sure that is still plugged in.

as much as i hate "me too" posts
my 87 camaro had that connector too. Never figured it out, either. Seems not to be used.
Regarding the knock, under what circumstances does it occur?
Mine had a knock at part throtte, but not WOT. It turned out to be EGR. The EGR passages in the intake manifold were completely blocked with exhaust carbon.

I get it between 1400-1800 RPM and for less than a second at WOT. I have since changed the oil and dumped some water down the carb and that seems to have helped but hasn't completely fixed it. Though this weekend I'd give it some more treatments of water and see if it improves anymore.
