need help with a starting problem

i have a problem starting my car when the engine is hot...

basically i'll drive the car for a while, turn the car off and then get back in the car to return home or wherever.....

well, when i try to start the car, nothing happens... i turn the ignition switch and -nada- .... i can hear some solenoid or something clicking under the dash(it's pretty quiet though) but no juice is getting to the starter...

if i leave the hood open for 10 or 15 minutes and let the car cool down, it will start without a problem...

i figure it's some kind of solenoid or relay or something that is failing whenever it gets hot... does anybody have an idea about what i'm talking about?

thx for the help

oh yah... the car is an '89 IROC

two things: next time it does this, make sure your "security" light is out. if it's on for an extended period of time, that means the VATS didn't read the key right, wait 4-5 minutes (no less) and try again. Keep the key out of the column.

If the light is off, you may have a dead spot on your starter motor, meaning it's not going to crank all the time. Just replace it and you should be good to go. Hope that helps.
