neutral safety switch and hatch release

I'm in the middle of a swap from auto to manual and I know people run wires from the auto connector harness to the clutch switch. I don't want to run wires everywhere, so I'd like to tap in somewhere closer to the pedal. I know there are tan/white and purple wires to the left of the clutch pedal. Has anyone tapped in there, and would it work? Anyone with a T-5 know where the wires for the clutch switch originate from?

For the hatch release, according to the helm manual, the manual tranny cars go to the brake switch. Would it be safe to run a tap from the auto console connector (for the tan/white wire) and hook it to the brake switch? Manual tranny cars have the hatch functional when the parking brake is applied, from what I can discern. This is the same tan/white wire that will be shunted with the purple wire for neutral safety. I've heard some people are unable to have the hatch release functioning unless the clutch is depressed, and it looks like shunting the wires would do the trick.

Has anyone followed the wires up behind the I/P to see how/where it splices? The helm manual states it's on the left hand side of the I/P but I've been unable to find it and I'm not too keen on pulling the dash.

Thanks in advance,

Look in the Helms manual.

I JUST finished a auto to manual swap in my 85 IROC, and FOR NOW, I just jumped the purple / yellow ( THICK ) wires at the neutral safety switch ( that went to the auto shifter ) as I couldn't find the plug up under the dash for the clutch switch that everyone else seemed to have. I tried tracing the purple / yellow wires, but they ran into the main bundle in the dash, I Even looked behind the driver's kick panel. I'll go back in later and run the wires to the switch at the pedal.

As for the hatch, I just left it alone, and it works fine, just have to watch opening it while driving....

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks.

I got all this stuff out of the Helm manual, but was wondering if anyone has actually tried to run shorter wires or shunted the wires for the hatch release. I'd like it to work only with the parking brake on, as that's what I gathered is the way T-5 camaros originally functioned. Yours is the first I've heard that the hatch release actually works without pressing in the clutch pedal, based on a search I've done on the topic.

It looks like the things I've stated would work, but you never know. I haven't burrowed into the dash to verify the wire connections, nor have I been able to find the splice locations according to the helm manual, and can only assume the wire colors coming up near the fuse box is correct. It's just so darn tight up under the dash, that finding wires that are hidden under electrical tape is a real bear.

I'm basically looking for verification.

Thanks again.
