Fuel Pump or Electrical problem?
I just wanted to post this to see if anyone has experienced this.
A couple of months ago, my fuel pump went out. 305 TBI
I replaced it with one from the local auto parts store.
It worked well for about a week. Then it went out again.
So I bought one from the Dealership and installed it.
I didn't put it in the tank and put everything up, I wanted to make sure it would work first.
So I left the pump out (connected and all), turned the key on the ingnition. Not all the way, just turned for accessories.
The pump did not come on! I was told it may be the ignition thing on the column. It may need to be adjusted.
Because when you turn the key like you are going to start it, the pump comes on. It's not the relay because that's new.
I really don't want to take this in to a mechanic shop or the dealership technician and get azz raped when they overcharge me for labor!!!
Any help or comments are appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
edit: oh I also posted this in the Tech/General Engine section.

I know you said that the relay was new so I won't go into that. Lower your back seat and put twelve volts direct to I belive it is the purple wire and see if the pump comes on. If it does then look up by the battery the is usally a fuse mounted all by it self in a little black case kinda looks like a relay but is not see if it is blowen. if not check your relay one more time for giggles. This is the order I did stuff when I had the same problem. My prob was a little differant but really silimar pump wasn't working and relay was not entergizing. Well I hope this helps. Good luck.

The fuel pump relay primes the system for 2 sec when the key turned to the run position, then it turns off. After the engine starts it re-energizes and supplies power along with the oil sender switch. Basically the pump when it's running can get power 2 ways. After roughly 5psi or so of oil pressure a switch closes supplying 12 volts along with the relay. Either one can be missing, in the case of the oil sender it takes a little cranking for the car to start. Double check the relay socket and clean it with contact cleaner. They have been known to get intermittent causing the relay not to supply the prime.

Well I figured out what it was.
The relay was good, we even checked the connections to make sure contact was good. Not a problem there.
Well, my dad tested the wires going into the relay for power.
They weren't getting power when the key was off, or when the key was on. So we checked some wiring diagrams in a Camaro owners manual. I forgot to check the fuze that is the power source. The one located in the front engine bay by the battery.
Sure enough it was blown. I replaced it and all is working fine!!
Thanks for all the help!
