Need help with starter problem

Here goes, I was driving my car home Saturday from getting some chrome tips installed and drove my car around town for awhile. On the way back home it starts missing and dies when I come to a stop. I was not far from home when this statred and made it with no problems. I had a plug wire that at one time laid down on one of my headers and the outer core was burnt, so I replaced it. I go to start my car and the car starts in the auxiliary position and is making a strange noise. This freaked me out that my car would start without me engaging the starter and the noise that I heard was the starter engaging and continuing running.

I thought maybe it was a bad ignition switch, so I changed it, now I can turn the key to the auxiliary position but nthing happens and tap the key and it starts like it did before with the starter continally running. I might need to go back and adjust the rod that goes from the tumbler to the ignition switch, but I still can't figure out why my car will start without turning the key all the way and my starter stays engaged constantly.

The only thing that has happened recently was that a locksmith made me a new key last week and had the tumbler out. I started the car a couple of time before he left, but Saturday was the first time that I drove the car since then. Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem may be???? I would appreciate any help.

Start by checking for melted wiring near the starter.
