hatch release installation

The weather is finally good again up here to work on my cart so I want to restart some old projects from last fall. One of them was installing a hatch release into my '85 TA. I have the switch. But, i looked at my wiring, my car contains NO wiring for the release, now harness or anything. I have to wire it myself. Now some questions:

What purpose does the relay serve? Is it just for safety(not working when in gear) or something else? Is it definitly needed?

How does the solonoid attach to the locking mechanism? Will there be any modifications needed to be done to my latch, or will it bolt right on?

How would it be wired to the switch? I plan on running it without the saftey feature(simpler for me to install) and I have to do all the wiring, routeing and connecting. How would I wire the switch so it lights with the guage lights and operate the solinoid?

Any body got a diagram?

What parts do I need? I have a '86 TA parts car with a operating pull-down motor and release(thats where I got the switch). The thing looks like it was retrofitted in though, so the wiring probably doesnt match original layout.

Thanks

Matt

this is simple. assuming that you have a hatch release switch, run one wire to the trunk latch release mechanism, then from the switch to a full time hot location in your fuse panel. The mechanism will serve as its own ground and when you heat up the wire, it should work fine.

i heard it was a red/wire coming from the release mechanism going to the fuse box, can u run it directly into that red/wire and just run a ground anywhere and it should pop?
