Headlight Motors

Hi, I own an 86 trans am, 5.0 L, 305 ci. I was just wondering how I would go about replacing my headlight motors because I have to manually put them up and down. I think I need brand new headlight motors, but how do I take the old ones out? What do the motors look like? Are they hard to take out and put back in? Please help me. Thanks for your time. Also how much would they approximately cost if I was to buy one motor for the right and left?

all right, just saw this post.

Dont go and replace the motors right yet. They could still be good. They cost somewhere around $200+ new. And I think GM may be starting to discontinue them.

Check the relays first. They should be on the inner fender walls near the strut towers. THey are little black boxes if you dont know what they look like. There is also a third one on the passenger side, near the radiator, its below the cap. That one is a special relay. It cannot be switched. That relay must be purchased from the dealer. It is called the Headlight Motors Isolation Relay. I dont know the part numbers, if i can find/remember them I'll let you know. The other two relays are normal relays. They can be bought at most part stores. I know GP Sorenson makes them. They are part # MR62, I think, not sure though, you're gonna have to check it out. They should be named headlight relays or something like that.

The Isolation Relay should be around $20-$25, the other two would be around $10-$15 each.

Check the relays first, then let me know what is up. There could be a couple other things wrong besides the bad motors.

Both my lights didn't work when I got my car and I fixed them without replacing both motors( I only had to do one). Anyway, I'll help out as much as I can. If we got to, we could meet up somwhere and I could have a look. I live at 10 Mile and I94.
