12V motors
12V motors
Does anyone know of a 12v low-mid power [torque] motor ??... that could be controlled by a 3-way switch to move either direction (clockwise, OFF, AND counter-clockwise), and used in a car w/ the battery , I know how to wire them and hook them up and everything... BUT I can't find any that work right (do they exist ??)
basically what I'm tring to do is use the idea of the (power plate) electric exhaust cut-out, on a custom INTAKE... it's a home-made BAD-AZZ dual 4" snorkel, tubular RAM-AIR that feeds from the underside of the car, HOWEVER when it rains... well, "the engine don't wanna run so pretty" lots of water gets into the tubes.. (because it's 5 inches OFF the GROUND) and I'm tired of having to pull over, get on the wet pavement, and put covers on the tubes (to stop the water)... I want to use the motors to rotate a valve "plate" (one on each tube) to seal the tubes with the flip of a switch ... from the nice warm, dry inside of my car...
Ideas ?? comments?? suggestions ?? places where I can get (2) motors ??
THANKS IN ADVANCE

i thought of the same idea, move the switch one way to get it to rotate one way and then vice versa, but in order to do that, you would have to use 2 switches cause it would just be grounding it out is how im seeing it wired, but if ya have a differant idea on how do it i would like to see that. heres my concept of how you are thinking of wiring it. but check out radio sack for the motors, i work at the radio shack in my town and we have some. good luck man

I'm fairly certain any DC motor will reverse so there isn't a special motor you'd have to buy. Any hobby motor, R/C car motor, cordless drill, etc. should do the trick for you. I'd say just grab a crappy $19.95 cordless drill from Harbor Frieght (or similar low buck tool store) and gut it for the motor and 'transmission' for the torque you're wanting and use the reversing switch for the operation side. If you're somehow able to connect both 'butterflies' via a rod, I'd wadger the cordless guts would have enough twist to close both at the same time instead of having to use 2 seperate motors. Just a semi-inebriated thought from me...
i actually was rummaging through my garage (with parts everywhere) for ideas and i found an OLD power window motor... with the gear on it.... AND MY HEAD STARTED WORKING... it's already designed for a 12 V system, and already designed for a 2-way switch... PLUS it will have gear consistency (meaning ... when I let off the button ... the gear WILL stay in the same place , therefore, whatever I have attatched to it (a bar, or connector to the valves) will stay closed, or open ... I also plan to use weather-stripping on the part where the valve touches the tubes.. to prevent water from getting in, and experiment with that...
mirthman... you should look into this idea also... a junk-yard power window motor is like $10..
thanks guys
