Yet another hatch motor problem

I have an 87 Firebird with a remote hatch release switch. The hatch motor is staying in the full down position. I checked the fuse, confirmed 12 volts (red & white wire, and the motor plug), and I put in a new motor. Hatch release seems to work, but the motor does not come on to lift the catch.

One other item to note: there is a single white wire with a black plug coming from the harness in the back that does not seem to have a home to plug into.

Please help! I can't drive her, 'cause I can't get the hatch to latch.

I have a similar problem.

I just took out my bird today and the hatch motor is stuck in the up position. It locks into place but the motor won't bring it down. The release works though. I tried replacing the fuse that says lid but it didn't work. Is there a relay for the motor that may have gone bad, or something else to check? Thanks for the help.
