where is the fusible link?

I had to replace the alternator in my 1982 z28 and like an idiot I was in a hurry and didn't disconnect the battery. I touched the power wire to the block it smoked and popped etc. Anyway installed new alternator and i have no ignition light etc. and the car is dead and won't turn over. Does anyone know where the fusible link is??? I have followed the wire back all the way to the dash and can't find anything.

P.S. This has been a total nightmare when they say disconnect the battery trust me DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST.

Sound more or less like a connection problem between the batery and the starter (or ground to the block). There is no fusible link of the battery cables themselves. The alternator wiring, cooked or not, will not prevent the rest of the car from getting power.

yes there is a fusable link for the alt. its down there with the starter and the other three fusable links. they are such a pain the the f.u.cking *** to do. id dosconnect the battery than take off all leads from your starter as well as the ignition wire (purple) and pull that harness out from beside the block and infront of your A? arm for your front wheel and drop it down and work on it there. lay underneath the car, its so much easier. you'll know what i mean when you get under there. dont half *** the job on the fusable links, take your time and do it right.

Well to be more specific... I have headlights and have put a meter on all connections and they are working. I actually found a fusible link just by the starter and put the meter on just past it and it was fine. The wire on the alternator that I touched to the block has no power. My interior lights work, buzzer and a few other things. I have no ignition lights on the dash and absolutely nothing happens when I turn the car over.

I did this. I grounded the wire to the valve cover once.

The fusible link you burned up is beside the battery. There are a couple links between the battery and radiator. Youll notice the burned one. This happened to me exactly so Im almost 100% positive thats the one you need.
