when blinkers dont blink....

I had to replace all the dash wiring with everything else due to fire problems. most things work fine now except the left from blinker doesnt work. the back and right side work like they should.... what I have done to temporarily solve the problem is splice into a wire that runs to the left brake light so it will blink. it works but that also means that every time I step on the brake pedal the front light comes on and its reterded as hell. so now that I have some time while its not on the road I want to fix it somehow. problem is I dont know any of the wire colors that I should be looking at to figure out what is wrong. I bought a shop manual but that has proven to be totally useless. any suggestions would be apreciated.

Make sure all the bulbs are the correct number and they all turn on. If a bulb is out, the blinkers won't blink anymore on the side of the bad bulb.

Check your turn signal relay, its a 12v round silver thing attached to the side of the fuse box.
