Can a solenoid?.................

My car is not getting a charge, but the battery and alternator have been checked and they're good. My neibor told me that it could be the solenoid on the starter that's bad and it could be the problem. Is it possible?

Gah, I went through this, on a ford taurus, ugghh. worst car
ever.

Anyways, do you get a clicking noise when you try to start the
car, is it a definite click?

if you hear a clicking noise, the solenoid is good on the starter,
but the starter is shot. if you don't hear a clicking, both could
be bad, or maybe the solenoid could just be bad, either way
I would suggest replacing the entire starter assembly.

Spend some now, or spend more later.

if your solenoid is bad but the starter is good save your money and buy a remote solenoid. I got one from Summit for about $25.00. it is a little work to put in but you'll never have solenoid prob again and if you do it will be a 100 times easier to just change the solenoid from up top rather than having to get under the car and fight with the exhaust to get the starter out, not to metion alot less dirty of a job vs replacing a starter b/c of a bad solenoid.
