convertible and fuse problem

Hey guys, I have a problem with my fuses shorting out. Right after I bought my car my power door locks, cigarette lighter, lights in my rear view mirror and my side view mirror adjuster just quit on me, every time I replace one of the fuses it just gets blowed again in about a week. And the latch between my power windows to release the top cover doesn't work either, Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Guys

Sounds more like a live wire grounding out somewhere.

If the fuse blows immediately then the live wire is making contact at all times.
If it blows only when you close a door or something like that then you know where to begin looking.

I kinda doubt fuseible link because I don't think there are any for the interior workings of the car. Also if the fuseible link was fried you would not blow any fuses because there would not be any power going to the fuse.

I'd check for split or cracked wires touching metal somewhere.

just my thoughts.
I've also got a 91 vert, but we have not run into that problem as of yet.

well, can't say for sure, but a couple suggestions....

-check the cigarette lighter for a coin, etc
-pull the back seat panels and look at the connectiong going to the solenoids.
-last, and most time consuming, pull the console switch lid, and check for any pinched wires down there. sometimes things can get rubbed or caught by the shifter or e-brake.

Hi again,
Just spoke with my girlfriend who has owned the car since it was new. And she told me she did have a similar problem as well.
Power door locks would not work, but she did not notice if anything else was on the blink as well. And it did blow fuses.

she took it to the dealer way back then and they kept replacing the fuse which would only blow after a few days. So they they tracked it down to the cigarette lighter and replaced the whole unit on the ciggy lighter. Problem was solved after that.

The door locks have never blown since.

Perhaps you might try disconnecting the ciggy lighter and taking it completely out of the car and see if your problem still exists. If not then all you have to do is buy a new ciggy lighter at a autoparts store near you.

It's a easy enough thing to take out to see if that might be the problem.
