A/C and dual fans
A/C and dual fans
Hi guys,
I already did a search, but didn't find what I needed. On a dual fan setup when you turn the a/c on, is it only the secondary fan that should engage? This is the fan controlled by the ECM, the primary is controlled by the fan switch in the head right? This whole question is in regards to my '89 IROC 5.7L. Thanks for any replies.
Edit- Maybe I should say wtf is going on huh?
The previous owner took out the dual fans and put in a single. This appears to be cuz there was front end damage and he scrimped on components. The provisions are there for the dual fan setup. I took the a/c to be charged today after replacing the compressor, accumulator, and orifice tube. While filling the system, the technician had to stop because he noticed that the high pressure was getting too high and no cooling fans were coming on to cool the condensor. This should be the secondary fan, not the primary, right? Since there is currently no secondary fan, would that be my problem? Also, I noticed that the orange lead going to the positive battery post is cut or broken off. This should be the power for the secondary fan relay shouldn't it?
I've got a dual Spal fan setup due here tomorrow. Thank ***! I hope that solves the problem.

I was reading in another thread that when the secondary fan comes on, the primary one comes on too.
My fans aren't running correctly so I have both of the relays hooked to 2 toggle switches and run the primary all the time and the secondary if the temp hits 200.
