Don't know what I did wrong?

I took out the whole interior of my 87 GTA to install the stereo and put in new carpeting. Now, before I had everything back together I wanted to check and make sure everything was OK. I turned the key to the start position and the fan goes on. I try to crank the starter and it won't crank, but the fan goes off and the temp gauge pegs out. What is going on here? I tried hooking the plugs for the power seats back together and plugged the plug in the driver's seatbelt back together, but didn't screw it down(no ground maybe). I hooked up everything in the console; windows, mirrors, auto shift indicator, console light, plug on e-brake, and cig lighter. Did I miss something in there? I didn't bolt the seats down either(another ground problem?). I checked for any cut wires behind the kick panels I put in, nope. Everything else works-lights, hatch release, radio. Should I put everything back together and hope it's a ground or what? I'm losing my mind on this one. Please offer up any ideas or thoughts you might have. PLEASE!!

I didn't touch the ECM. I'll check it to make sure though.

Took off the console to make sure everything was plugged in. Forgot to plug in the plug on the shifter. Everything is OK except the fan still runs as soon as the key is turned to start. Did the relay burn up? Can someone tell me where the relay is so I can check. Thanks.
