89 Camaro RS Security System Engages when it shouldn't
For some reason the security system in my 89 RS engages (the security light on the panel beneath the gauges comes on) and my car won't start. Is there any way to disable it, or some way to get it to not engage every time I try to start my car with the correct key. Please help!!!
Dave
p.s. this is all when i turn the key to the ignition position, it makes a low humming noise and then stops and the light comes on.

well the humming is probably the fuel pump running which is in fact normal. The security light flashing could be caused by a couple different things. I have personally seen alot of ignition lock cylenders go bad because of the two small wires that go to it breaking which intern wont let the key to be read by the system. I would start there and see what the wires look like, they are two white ones that run up through the steering column to the lovk cylener itself. I never cared much for the VATS system on these cars for this very reason because overy time you turn the ignition the wires are bent and we all kno metal gets weaker and weaker every time its bent in any way and will eventually break.
