Previous owners weren't cool

Does anyone else have a car where the previous owners seemed to have made some really bad decisions like... installing 3 alarms, all of them not working by the time you got the car ¿ I just spent the past 4 hours pulling out half a trashbarrel full of wires. About how clean should I expect to get under the drivers side dash, so far I have it at about 50% less wires.

Dude you're luckier than me
The previous owner screwed up the wiring really bad . He cut all the wiring from the ecm and used thicker gauge wires and used only three colors, orange and white and black.
I spent about four days to figure most of it but it really confused me a lot.

here is a pic of my ECM right next to the conector

Oh yeah? I removed my drivers seat to run some wires under the carpet, and the previous owner left me about 10 years worth of dried up boogers stuck to the seat. I thought I was going to throw up. The car is really clean otherwise. Just boogers under the damn seat. Matt

I had a 70 convertible Cutlass once, someone left a milk crate full of potatos in and they began to root themselves in the carpet, lol.

I guess the "eye's" saw the brown carpet and thought it was dirt, lol. Yeah, I know, bad joke lol.

o2sk8: Where do you live? Did you let your car sit long enough for a mouse to climb in there and raise little mice? Those things definetly aren't 'pinkies' (new born mice) anymore, they have to at least be 2-3 weeks old. Crazy...

And yeah, I got a good one, a buddy of mine and I work for a flower shop (my friends uncle owns it) and one day he had a delivery to a retirement home. He went in to run his delivery, came back out, got in the van, and instead of finding a small critter, he had an old man sitting next to him. The guy thought he was going for a ride...crazy, huh?!

I found a whole family of them living in my snowmobile muffler one
winter. Unfortunately, I found out as they were "evicted" by the
engine starting LOL That could have caused some nasty
backpressure issues.

That is when I learned to put a cap on the muffler every spring

I had a very similar pile of wire that I pulled out of mine when I first bought it.

3 alarm harness's
2 alarm brains
1 cd changer cable
12 ft. of power cable (amp wire)
4 ft. of amp ground wire
12 ft. serial cable that went from rear lock box to under the dash where is wasn't hooked up to anything

AND a cd player installed nice and correct and all, but useless cause the radio's face was missing!

All together, I put ALL the wire back to bone stock and the car lost 26 pounds!!!!!

I did add a nice Eclipse CD player in the old radio's place though!

Thank G0D I didn't find any dead animals though, that's nasty!

My new camaro had a ton of cigarette butts left over from 1994, ewww, and theres an aftermarket tach in it that has like 15 feet of wire under the dash, wtf... and my last camaro i had, when we first started it the radio burst into flames because the former idiot just twisted wires together, leaving the twist exposed.... Didnt short the car out, but it made it smell permanatly, I only had it running for a few days, and it STUNK! lol

That made me laugh so hard. :lala:

All I found were some old candies under the rear seats. The last owner probably had her kids in there.

You can never be too careful when finding "treasures" in a
car that has had kids in it.

My first camaro was a white 91 RS, one day I was trying to fish out change and garbage out of the back seats and found a small bag of weed, seemed really dry and old so I just pitched it...I could just see a cop finding it and my explanation of " but really its not mine officer! " yeah sure pal....Thats what you get for buying a chevy from a ford dealer.

Those storys make me glad I bought my car new. A woman I know found a nest of mice after her husband killed the mother, she called the humane society and they came and took them, but not sure what they did with them.

I was cleaning out my engine bay a couple days after i bought my car. It sat over winter in my friends lawn under some trees, so it was full of pine needles and dead leaves and stuff like that. When i reached way down by the vent near the front driverside tire i felt something big under the leaves. It was a dead squirrel.

I found an old joint under the ashtray of my car. Luckily, I also found an old receipt with the previous owner's address, and I was able to track the guy down and buy back the original rims for the car. I didn't tell him about his joint. I don't know if he was still looking for it.

i found candy and change in mine. it did come with an active starter bypass that kept getting fried so the dealership bought it back from me. i have yet to remove the wires. i didn't want the guy to hack it anymore than he had already. i have had my car for 6 years. i do have a little girl so i still find candy and food in weird places.

I work on cars, the stuff I see and smell is SO sick I think garbage men have a way better job. I think somewhere between dog poop in the back of a montana and pee all over the front of the cadillacs seats are about the worst. the pee seemed like a reg. day thing at the caddilac dealer. glad I work at a differant dealer now where you can get a few weeks with out the pee. there are soo many surprises in cars it amazes me. there are people who come in and the car looks like it has 100,000 miles on it by the inside being so trashed but only has 1000. I can't see how they manage to pig up the inside of a new car so fast.

I bought a '96 Neon from a lot in Vegas. When I went to put a tach in it, I reached under the panel below the steering cloumn and my hand caught something flaky and crumbly. When I pulled it out, it was a HUGE WAD of dried-up old weed. I almost **** myself because I was doing this in broad daylight at my apartment complex near the office, and cops come in there all the time. So I'm sitting there holding this big lump of weed, thinking "what the fawk am I gonna do with this?" Luckily I found a plastic bag and stuffed it into the bottom, covering it with random paper wads. That was CREEPY.

my old v6 once had a bad ant problem. one day i was lifting up carpet to install an amp, when i come accross an entire ant colony chillin under the seat. there were hundreds of 'em!! nothing raid couldn't fix.

another time i was returning from a herp expo where i had bought a baby nile monitor (a type of lizard), being impatiant i wanted to check him out before getting home. anyway i crack open the lid of the container he was in, the little bugger shoots out and goes straight for the a/c duct!! 5 hours and a completly reinstalled dashboard later, he is safe and sound in a LOCKED cage.

in junkyards i have come accross:
old nasty weed
old dried up coke
old dried up heroin?? could've been coke.
used condoms
a dead rat in a glove compartment.
a family's photo albulm with pictures dating back to the late 1800's. I returned it to the lady (her car had gotten towed).

The whole thought of finding drugs in the car is too disquieting for me- the last owner if my car had a bong in his house, and I'm afraid to guess what he might've done in the car. Is there any legal way to search the car for any drugs before they "find" it on me? I don't even know if my car smells enough for drug sniffers to bark.

My car the fromer owner had placed a steel beam in the trunk well to hold the hatch motor up because the plastic sliders broke. He also left a million ciggarette butts and ashes under the center counsole. He had also had the tranny rebuilt and instead of reinstalling the trans crossmember he welds it back into place which makes dropping the tranny impossible. Along with welding the crossmember he decides to weld a bolt to the top motor mount because it had broke and he must of thought it would hold the motor off the k member which it didn't thus cause a hole to wear in the oil pan which caused the motor to seize. he also cut and spliced a bunch of wire and correct a bunch directly to the negative terminal on the battery. the guy was nice enough to leave a pair of brand new seat cover tho.

This thread is full of some funny $#!+

I bought my camaro from a good friend of mine.
Anyhoo, My cars horn didn't work when I got it. I thought it was just broken, but after looking through recepits and stuff i found in the glove box, I found out he got it uninstalled. The reason was because he added a push-button switch that sounded dual alarms he hid in the engine bay.

Next, on the floor by the drivers side door, there was another push-button that was used to scare the crap out of passengers. You push it, and a piezo siren (a loud annoying high pitched SOB) screams into the passengers ear from up under the seat cover. Classic.

Last but definitely not least, I hydroplaned into a fallen tree once about two months after I obtained my car and cracked the windshield. The next day when the guys in front of my house changing it, i gues he kept finding stuff because in my seat after he left there was a c*nd*m (still in the packaging thank ***), a joint, and a house key. I guess he didn't learn to not put stuff on the dash!

When I first bought my trans am and got it home I opened the cover that goes over the well in the hatch only to find a bunch of like 0 gauge wire (steel I think it was rusted to ****) an old starter motor, also rusted to hell, rust colored dust ALL over the carpet and ironically an empty bottle of interior cleaner back there. A couple of trash bags and 10mins with the shop vac and it was fine. After the I've got the motor out now I started to inspect some of the wiring after seeing about 5 wire splices in the first foot of 10ga power wire from the battery I removed the split loom tubing to find multiple 1-3 inch sections of bare 10ga copper wire, keeping in mind these wires were routed about 4 inches from the fuel lines. The motor went to hell about a month after I bought the car, the guy seemed to conviently forget to tell me that the engine went through about 3 quarts of oil a week and somehow I will never no the dipstick always read full. Even after the first change I did in it and it was somewhat low I figured the idiot just didn't put enough in.
