Ignition Problem
I've had a quirky ignition problem for a while now where my car won't start if I try to start it immediately after driving for a while but after a while works just fine. There are a lot of symptoms and such that I could explain but I'm done looking for suggestions on treating the actual cause. I'm convinced its not the battery, starter, or cables because they've all been replaced recently and I've checked them over many times. The symptoms are the same after replacing every part.
I am convinced it is some crappy piece of equipment somewhere between my key and the starter, if you know what I mean. I've had lots of problems with stuff on my steering column and I'm sure it has something to do with my key cylinder, the rod, the switch, or something like that.
What I want to know now is how to hook up a simple push-start button that will bypass all that crap: no key, no rod, no VATS, no ignition switch, no whatever; just a button that, when pressed, engages the starter. What do I need to do to make this work?
Thanks guys.

run 12 volt line from batt. (+) through switch to small wire on starter sol. use 12-14 gauge wire and fuse it as close to the batt as possible.
this will not turn anything else on so you will have to have the key in run to turn on the ign, fuel pump, etc.
also if this is going to be your permanant solution you may want to use a relay activated by a with key power source.(this will make sure the button can not activate the starter when the key is not in run.)

sounds like the starter solenoid is getting heat soak. you can mount a ford solenoid near the firewall or something and that would eliminate the heat soak problem. it would also make a standard pushbutton starter switch really easy to hook up. then again you could bridge the solenoid gap with a screwdriver.

your eprom is your chip. chips are burned with info such as vats. you just need to put your key in the ignition and push your button if its wired right it will start.

Well considering that I'm worried about all the things that are supposed to happen when I put the key in and am trying to avoid that, I don't want to have to put my key in to use the push button. How do I bypass all those things - I know VATS, I can do that, but like the thing that locks the auto transmission, and the thing that engages the fuel pump. What else is there and how do I bypass these or hook them up to a simple switch that emulates putting the key in? Get what I'm saying?
mine had the same problem. somehow i broke the park neutral saftey switch. when you go to start your car the next time and it wont start, move the gear selector through the gears and see if you here the engine start to crank.
