stock alarm questions
Ok, I took a look at my window sticker. My car is supposed to have a security system of some sort. I made sure that the doors weren't swicthed out and the window label was lying to me. Now, does this just mean VATS? I'm guessing not because there is a security light.
If the security system isn't just VATS, where are the locations of some of the alarm components? I can't get the security light to flash when I open the door. I've looked almost everywhere under the hood, but I'm not really sure of what I'm looking for. I had the spare tire out a few weeks ago, but that was before I was "looking" for the security system. I saw nothing electrical back there except a side marker light that doesn't turn on (like the rest of them).
I would think just VATS would be a pretty lame security system. (here, steal my stereo and tear up my dash trying to hotwire it)

I have never seen a factory alarm like that on any thirdgen. The security light on the dash that says "security" is the VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft ) system. There is a little chip on your ignition key, it as a certain resistance. Without that proper resistance the car will not start, it may turn over and such, but not start. Some newer model cars flash lights and horns, but I have yet to see that on any thirdgen.

Alrighty...... I still don't know what the security light is for, but it certainly sounds like I don't have what I thought I had. The manual must be very generic then, because it does show how to arm an alarm system that honks the horn etc. Kinda strange if you ask me.
I was kidna dumb actually, I keep saying VATS... when I was saying VATS, I meant the key chip thingie (which works great). I guess VATS could also be a full security system if there actually was one.
Thanks for straightening me out!
