WEIRD ignition switch problem.............?!?!
WEIRD ignition switch problem.............?!?!
So I got the rebuilt T5 back in....shifts AWESOME. MUCH SMOOTHER....so I'm driving it today, when the car ahead of me comes to an intersection going 60mph and the light turns yellow. So the idiot LOCKS up the brakes to try and stop.....of course I had to lock 'em up as well....
The bonehead ended up skidding halfway thru the intersection, then deciding to drive on thru.....so I get stopped, and the car dies??? Tried to start it back up.....nothing. Getting power, but the key won't engage the starter.
Thinking quickly, and since I'm at a major intersection at 5:00pm, I quickly take off the shifter console plate ( luckily the right torx bit and ratchet were in the passenger floorboard from replacing the shifter boot I forgot to re install during the tranny install ) I grab the old auto shift cable end and jiggle it around a bit, and the car starts.
Get to pick up my son, and the car won't start back up? WTF?
So I drop the column down a bit, and just start it via the rod that goes into the ignition switch.....
I get home, and decide somehow the ignition switch must have taken a dump....so I pull the switch out of my parts car 87 IROC, and go at it.
What a pain..... While I'm in there, I went ahead and disconnected the shift lock cable that was useless since I converted to a T5 from an automatic.....that was a pain, those two TINY screws all the way in the back........engineers suck.
After an eternity ( it seemed ) of sitting half in, half out of the car, and getting rained on the whole time......I get the new switch in, and end up having to adjust it out a bit......and got it and the dimmer switch back in and adjusted..
Now the key switch is kinda sticky when starting it.....I'll shoot some graphite lube in it tomorrow and call it good.
But at least the car starts now.....
Anybody else seen a hard panic stop cause something like this?
Weird enuff for me
