i have a 92 RS and every now and then it makes this little staccato, 1/4 second long whirr close to the back of the car. I'm guessing this is the fuel pump relay or something causing this. Am I right, and if so, what do I do? Thanks.

 

When the car is running you should hear a constant low pitch whining, that is the pump running. If the car has sat for a while and the fuel pressure has bled off it will come up and whine for 2 secs or so before you hit the start function of the key.

 

thanks but the only problem is the car has been off for three or four hours usually. I guess i should have mentioned that earlier.
